I have 27 years of experience in the field of education. I've worked as an art teacher, a gifted and talented enrichment teacher, a museum curator, an arts administrator, and a media specialist. I am certified in art education, elementary education, and media education, and nationally certified in library/media. I'm very interested in integrated literacies and cross curricular learning through technology. My work in this area earned a Smihsonian Learning Innovation Award. I am a Fulbright Scholar and have been recognized as one of Florida's Art Educators of the Year. I am the author of Engaging the Eye Generation (Stenhouse, 2009). I am also a feature writer and regular columnist for Multimedia & Internet @ School Magazine. In addition, I write for Teaching & Learning. I am an Adobe Educator. My colleague, Deborah Hargroves, and I speak and train on technology infusion and multiple literacy learning. I am looking forward to returning to the school campus next year, where I will be working as a technology infusion coach for an elementary charter school. It's going to be a great learning experience for all of us!
What information do you hope to gain from the Visual Teaching Network?
We learn from each other. I am hoping to connect with teachers who are integrating visual literacy into their learning landscapes. I am interested in their rationale, methods, and results. I am hoping to discuss ideas with educators who share my interests.
