In this week's vlog, MEP Francis Zammit Dimech speaks about his work on a report on Modernisation of Education in the EU currently being discussed within the Committee responsible for Education. Over the past weeks Zammit Dimech met representatives of child care centres, teachers, unions, academics and students to obtain their feedback. They raised various existing concerns which need to be tackled including the lack of safety in schools for teachers, the need to ensure quality in child care centres and the need to have enough LSAs (Learning Support Assistants) in classes with students with different abilities.

Zammit Dimech said that in education more importance needs to be given to the international dimension to ensure more opportunities for young people to study abroad through programmes such Erasmus+. He insisted on the need to ensure that visual literacy is given due importance in an ever increasing digital worked to ensure young people can interpret audio-visual material in a critical manner. In this regard teachers need to be given the necessary teaching resources and training. He also referred to his appeal for better coordination between educational institutions, research centres and industry to ensure that young people attain skills needed in such sectors.
